Description

In my '05-391 – Designing Human-Centered Software’ class, our next assignment was to design an app on a smartwatch that would resolve any campus related issue. Inspired by a former project, I wanted to design an app that would show students how many ‘meals‘ they had left in their on-campus meal plan.

Background

Make it an App

In order for a student to check how many ‘meal blocks’ they have left in their account, they have to open a browser, search up the student information portal website, log into their account through the browser, and find the ‘Meal Plan Assignment‘ tab. That’s a lot of work.

It would be easier to have a separate application that already has their information saved, and can provide their meal analytics, along with more insights.

The Details

Pretty self-explanatory. Wanted something minimalist, while still incorporating the main color scheme.

Users can see their favorite restaurants, allowing them to access their information quicker. This reduces the amount of time scrolling through restaurant options.

Users can compare location popularity to see which restaurants are busier than others. Students can then efficiently plan their time, and schedule accordingly.

Features the main analytics: the number of ‘Meal Blocks’ – abbreviated as ‘M‘ – as well the amount of ‘Flex‘ dollars. This page would also show other data.

Ex. Weekly spendings so students could better pace themselves.

After clicking the ‘Maximize‘ plus button, you’re greeted with a few options.

  1. Minimize; Closes the tabs.

  2. Favorites; Sends you to a list of your favorite on-campus restaurants.

  3. Location Details; Gives you a data summary of on-campus restaurants.

  4. Popularity; Shows the crowdedness of these locations.

Users, after clicking on a restaurant can see its data. How crowded it is; how far away it is. Scrolling even further would be a button to add it as a favorite restaurant.
